yesterday after work, hibo and i decided to do a lil bit of shopping when we got into a discussion on the difference between men from jersey and men from the city.
living in jersey for almost half a year now, while moving back and forth from manila to jersey in the last ten years, i noticed that jersey has a lot of young 20-something fathers. it's amazing how parks in jersey are packed with men in their late 20s, throwing a ball around with their 3-to-6-year-old kid/S. while in the city, you have the dog-walkers, the joggers, and the occasional first-time fathers in their 40s walking around with a stroller holding up their 1-to-2-year-old KID (emphasis on the singular tense).
it's a rat race in the city, i understand that. sure, career comes first. but i think there's something more about this city (new york) that makes men less susceptible to wanting fatherhood in the early years. think about it.. in new york, there's always a floral shop on EVERY CORNER. "having an affair? cheating on the girlfriend? well, head on over to the big apple flowers and get a big bouquet of long-stemmed roses to soothe the woman scorned." haha, it's a big possibility. you've got to be aggressive to live and work in the city anyway, who's to say you're not the same way when pursuing women? and in a city crawling with fabulous-looking ladies, you've got to be aggressive enough to try and pursue more than one. i think this city makes men greedy. hahaha..
when you live in a city that pretty much molds your lifestyle into one that makes you feel like you CAN be young forever, you can't help but milk it for all its worth. i guess that's why most new yorkers will always procrastinate when it comes to "settling down".
see, i think that's where the problem lies for the women. sure it might be the same for some women that career comes first. but we do have that inevitable timebomb that explodes when 30 rolls around. the body-clock says it's time to settle down. but in the city where men will prolong their youth for as long as they can, how do you find "the one"? more importantly, how do you find "the one" who wants to settle down and have a family with you? admit it. we've all had "the one"s before. and i'm sure you might have a lot more "the one"s coming your way before you find "the ultimate one" (haha). wanna know what might help though?
take the njtransit to jersey. hahahahaha XD
it's just a thought. i don't want to say i know a lot about this. these are just random observations. and are completely based on my friends' and my experiences. i mean, hey, i might've found love in new york. but he's a jersey man. =)
note: not settling down yet. my biological clock hasn't exploded yet. but he might be "the ultimate one". i mean, i'd like to think i found my ultimate one. haha.. but who knows? i'll get back to you on that one.
