remember sammy jankis

tim was off today so we got to hang out. had pizza and buffalo wings in edgewater and came back to the apartment to watch memento. i've seen the movie at least 10 times in my life but it's one of those films that just keeps getting better and keeps getting more interesting over time. there's always a new question. and there's always a new piece to the puzzle. heck, i'm still piecing it all together.

it actually reminds me of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, in the sense that they both revolve around memories. and how unstable they are. how we can possibly program ourselves to forget certain pieces in our lives, and retain the ones we want to remember.

for now, we still have the luxury of remembering every single moment up until our most recent activities (at least, the moments that don't involve booze :-p). can you imagine how it would be once we get to that point where we start forgetting? it must be sad.

i can say that i've had one too many low points in my life. but i can't imagine how life would be if i had programmed myself to forget the unfortunate events. to pick out certain parts in my life and chuck them out of my mind because it was too painful or embarrassing just doesn't seem right. at least, i imagine that it won't feel right. like there's a missing piece as to why i'm at this point in my life now. it won't add up. the void might even be worse than the pain that particular event had held for me. i mean, at least by remembering, i can at least say i got out of it alive.

how crazy is it that some people are able to lie to themselves and fashion their lives around what they want to believe? remember sammy jankis? or is it pat enriquez? hmm..
