i've been fortunate enough to have friends in the music industry, as well as friends who have great taste in music. for my birthday, my cousin gave me a gift card to itunes and i've been racking my brain, thinking of mind-blowing ear candy i can download off the site. a couple of weeks ago, mr. dj man recommended i get beck's sea change album.
it's only now that i actually got to sit down and listen to it from the first song to the last. and it was such a good call. i swear i've been bawling for the past couple of hours (i have it on loop). it's just soooo sad, it's beautiful. but let's make one thing clear: I AM NOT EMO. haha.. i just like listening to heartbreaking music (i.e. elliott smith, jeff buckley, bon iver, early death cab, etc.). a lil bit of sorrow makes one feel so alive. in fact, i think it was rumi who said it best:
i saw grief
drinking a cup of sorrow
and called out,
"it tastes sweet, does it not?"
"you've caught me," grief answered,
"and you've ruined my business.
how can i sell sorrow,
when you know it's a blessing?"
anyway, just sharing the sorrow (hehe). i think we all need a cup once in a while.:-p
