geneseo, ny is where exactly?

on sunday, i drove halfway to geneseo, ny, which was a 6-hour drive upstate (my cousin mav drove the other half). it was south of rochester, and almost at the border of canada. my neice marissa and her boyfriend, david got us tickets to see this funky ska band, reel big fish and this rock band, brand new (marissa's ultimate favorite band) at SUNY.

i never thought i'd actually drive that far just to see a band perform. but i'm glad i did. i had a lot of fun. although this sunday proved that i really am getting old.

marissa, david and i were standing pretty close to the stage. but there was a point in the concert where we got separated because the crowd behind us kept jumping around and pushing people up front. so this lil girl got swept away and got squished in between the guy in front of me (who kept pushing back against the railing) and the guy behind me who was jumping up and down like crazy. good thing that after a couple of songs david reached for me and pulled me towards them. i kinda felt bad that he was mostly getting the beating, trying to keep people from hitting me and marissa. but we mostly had fun anyway.

people were crowd-surfing too. THAT's when i realized how long it's been since i've been to a concert this crazy. i swear, i was THISCLOSE to just squatting to avoid getting hit by feet. hahaha.. i remember i used to be the kid who's cheering on the crowd surfers. and if i wasn't so scared of where i'd end up, i'd probably be one of those crowd surfers too. but i think i'm way past that phase.

what's worse was that after reel big fish performed, you can really feel the heat in the crowd because it was so packed up front. there was no water fountain around (and even if there was, the three of us opted to stick it for fear of losing our spot). i tried to wait till brand new performed at least one song before calling it quits and moving to the back to try and sit down, and maybe find a bathroom and splash my face with water. but i was already feeling faint (the last meal we had, by the way, was the mcgriddles before leaving my apartment). so i did the 'manang' deed -- raised my white flag and told marissa that i'd be waiting for them by the bleachers.

i sat through three songs before i went looking for a bathroom. splashed my face with water and decided to sit on the steps right in front of the doors. security left them open so i enjoyed the cold air that was coming in.

i really am getting too old for this. i think i'll stick to finding smaller, cozier venues instead of the crazy big auditorium concerts.

other than that, i mostly had fun. i think i liked reel big fish more than i did brand new. but that's just because i miss dancing. and reel big fish was fun to dance to. but the lil emo in me also appreciates brand new on those quiet nights alone at the apartment. haha.. here are a few of their songs you might like:

on an unrelated note, i had gotten an email from bading. it's official. i'm in the system. i'm just waiting for that call.

find my name yet?=)
