turning one

december 15, 2008. today marks the first year since making touchdown onto this foreign land. and what a year it's been.

been paying off my own bills. been living on my own (sort of). been doing my own chores. been working full time. been sticking to just ONE job. been coming home well past midnight on weekends without anybody giving me crap about it (how frequent i do it is another story though, lol). been learning how to cook. and been discovering new things.

there's the scary yet inevitable "no more hyper speed metabolism, as well as no trips to the gym just 10 floors down, so everything i eat sets up camp in my tummy, my butt, and my thighs" phase. not to mention the "oh my god, i have a double chin going, and my cheeks are the size of siopaos (pork buns)" phase. which leads me to the "dammit, when did i ever worry about looks before" phase. that usually ends up in the "fuck exercise, i'll keep stuffing my face" phase.

there's also the "wow, i actually have a complete makeup kit" phase that goes hand-in-hand with "i'm friggin' wearing a dress??" phase. which, i guess, was brought on by the "moved on - stayed single - accepted the fact that i'll stay single for a while - but met someone out of the blue and fell in love" phase.

and the "holy crap, has it really been that long" phase.

and dreaming of the "you know" phase (this one's for you :P).

next thing you know, i'll be sliding into the "budget in the mortgage, electricity, heat, water, car, cable, internet, tuition payments" phase that might just possibly ruin the "you know" phase. but who's looking that far ahead?

time flew so fast yet so much has happened this past year that i can safely say i'm ready for things to start slowing down.

and speaking of slowing down, there's one thing that has surely been feeling like it's moving at 10kph instead of at my 23-year-old 110kph pace -- my metabolism. it's crazy that it was only a year ago when i used to look like this:

look at that wrist bone!

that collar bone's been in hiding since winter of last year. i haven't actually made any effort to entice it to come out since.

damn, i do miss having a relatively flat stomach. definitely no fupa there yet. now it just feels like i've been in fupa country.

oh well..

as i was saying (before my fupa took over :P), looking back at this past year, it seems like the old pat learned to run before she can even walk. yes, i guess i've been so excited about re-starting my life that i might have forgotten to take it easy. maybe by turning one, i'll re-learn how to take things one step at a time. hopefully.

for now, i'll be slipping right into my "it's 11pm and i'm already tired" phase, which definitely ties into the "man, we're getting old" phase.

i'm slowly starting to accept it.
