skipping stones

don't you just love how simple everything used to be?

these kids' only concern at the moment is skipping stones across the water and enjoying the number of jumps each stone makes. they don't seem too concerned about what kind of rock will skip best, or what kind of effort they put into throwing the pebble. they're just happy to actually be around water to do it at all.

how i wish things could be that simple.

we break our backs being concerned about how to keep a roof over our heads, what to wear to keep ourselves covered, and where to find good food when we feel hungry. sometimes we need to remember to just enjoy actually having them. instead, we get lost in the notion that we need more than just the basic necessities--which branded clothing to wear tonight, keeping face about how nice your house is and how much mortgage you pay, what kind of car you're sporting, which kind of cheese you serve at your cocktails, etc. hey, if you've got the money, good for you. but most try to keep up with those lucky enough to be shelling out that kind of credit when you know your credit's shot. i'll admit, i have the same faults at times.

we need to get back to basics. enjoy just skipping stones. and not worrying about breaking our bones for it.
